Ukraine confirms its aspiration to develop friendly ties with Russia, though it will never apprehend any blackmail or pressure, as claimed Borys Tarasyuk at a press conference on the results of the year 2005, UNIAN reports.

In particular, he said: “We confirm our aspiration to develop friendly, partner, and neighbor relations with Russia, but we will never apprehend any blackmail and pressure, which, most probably, just remind of desperate attempts to self-affirm rather than to conduct a policy of a serious international player”.

The Minister stressed he regrets that the line of confrontation, which is traced in the actions and statements of some Russian politicians, narrows the opportunities for a normal dialog between the two countries. He added that those saying about an excessive dependence of Ukraine are not right. “One should bear in mind that Ukraine depends on Russia to the same extent as Russia depends on Ukraine”, stressed he.

B.Tarasyuk noted he has no doubt that the gas problem between Ukraine and Russia will be solved in the nearest future. “The matter is, obviously, not the figures and amounts, which, in particular, cannot be either clearly explained or argued, but the matter is the approaches, shown by our partners”, said he.

The Minister pointed out that there are difficulties in the relations of Ukraine and Russia, but he would not dramatize them or treat them too thoughtlessly.
