In the press conference in Odessa, Victor Yushchenko said Ukraine was ready to invite observers from any country or international organization to 2006 elections.

“Observing international laws, we are ready to invite all people of good will from each corner of the world as observers,” he said. “If the President has to take some special measures, I am ready to consider this issue again to make an exhaustive positive decision,” he said.

Yushchenko stressed that, as Head of State, he wanted to conduct democratic elections in Ukraine. He believes this will help “remove all doubts our voters, political forces and international observers had about Ukraine’s ability to have transparent and fair elections.”

The President reiterated that he had asked the OSCE to keep monitoring Ukraine until that time. He opined that this mission “has contributed to the democratisation of election processes in Ukraine,” but added that we should not politicize this issue too much.
