According to informal data, 25% of Bukovyna population is living abroad, the major part of them is living there illegally and the rest of them are suffering in sexual slavery. 70% out of total amount illegal immigrants are women, OSCE Councillor Elvira Mruchkovskaya told.

Mruchkovskaya stresses Ukraine acknowledged the facts of human trafficking in 1998 nevertheless it lacks “the real mechanism to fight the crime.” The victims get help from civil organizations which are not financed by the government. The regional budget grants only $12,000 annually for preventing measures.
So, if Ukraine manages to get the visa free regime, the situation with human trafficking will become worse.
