At the Mariinsky Palace, Victor Yushchenko decorated President Aleksander Kwasniewski of Poland with the Order for Outstanding Service, the President's press office reported.

The Head of State stressed that he was proud to reward “Aleksander Kwasniewski, Ukraine’s great friend andmy personal friend.”

 
In his speech, Yushchenko said that, owing to Poland and its president, we had managed to implement many continental projects. One of them is the Odessa-Brody-Gdansk oil pipeline, which is an integral and important part of Europe’s energy security system.
 
“We can say that we have held all political talks to implement this project.It was given the go-ahead,” Yushchenko stressed, adding that Ukraine had already signed almost all necessary documents to make the oil pipeline start functioning.

The President emphasized that Ukrainian-Polish relations had changed politically, economically and humanitarianly.

He reminded all of solidarity between our peoples during the Orange Revolution and Kwasniewski’s personal contribution to settling last year’s political crisis in Ukraine.

In his turn, the Polish leader thanked his counterpart for this honorary award and noted that he was proud to help Ukraine build democracy and join the EU. Kwasniewski said he was convinced that achievements of the Orange Revolution “will not only serve Ukraine and Europe, but also the whole world.”
