In an interview with the Reuters News Agency, Victor Yushchenko said Ukraine was ready to extend the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline to the Polish city of Gdansk, the President's press office reported.

The President said we had already held political talks to implement this project. He noted that we had also established joint institutions with Poland and Kazakhstan.

“The aim of these institutions is to formulate a construction plan in December and to start implementing this project in 2006,” he added.

Yushchenko said they had also agreed to build a modern oil refinery in Brody. The sides expect investments to reach USD 3.5 billion.

“This is the second part of the project,” he explained.

Then the Head of State added that by signing an agreement with Kazakhstan to construct an oil terminal in Pivdenny and an oil pipeline between Odessa and Pivdenny “in order to use this terminal to transport Kazakh oil” they would considerably expand production traffic capacity of the pipeline.
