
In an interview with the Reuters News Agency, Victor Yushchenko said Ukraine might join the WTO by the end of 2005, the President's press office reported.
“This week, I am going to meet with different sides of this process to enlist their support and toreach a positive decision this year,” he said.
The President noted that Ukraine had already adapted most of its laws to the WTO standards.
“Today, wehave80-90% of WTO tariffs,” he added.
Speaking about his government’s efforts to join the WTO, the Head of State said, “The President and his government did all they could, but I would like to see the parliament work more efficiently.”
Yushchenko stressed that he did not reagrd bills the Verkhovna Rada still has to approve to beinsurmountable obstacles on our way to the WTO. He said Ukraine might assume obligations to pass these bills later.
