Rivne regional state administration plans to establish a residence of the President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko in the castle of Chartoryisky dukes in the Klevan’ settlement, Rivne region.
This architectural monument was built up in 1475 and is being destroyed by homeless persons and native inhabitants during last five years.
Under the Soviet ruling regime there was a school of mechanization in the castle; later on – treatment and working preventorium for alcoholics. Then the castle started to fall into decay. Finally, homeless persons, who used the building for night's lodging, made up a fire there, during which a part of the roof burned out.
Rivne state Rada deputies tried to raise a question concerning the castle restoration, but the matter did not advance beyond the talks.
Finally, Vasyl Chervony, head of Rivne regional state administration, has signed an order concerning free of charge delivery of the castle to one of construction firms, which promises to reconstruct and partially restore the castle.
According to Evgeny Bregovich, acting head of town-planning and architecture regional department, told that after the restoration there would be opened a tourist center, including a hotel and museum.
Besides, it is planned to build offices of state level for President’s residence. Also, horses will be reared on the nearby territories.
