Ukraine has joined the Council of Europe Convention on Action Against Human Trafficking of May 16, 2005, as reported by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's spokesman Vasyl Filipchuk .

A solemn ceremony of signing the Convention was held in the Council of Europe HQ in Strasbourg during the 115th session of the Council of Europe Ministers Committee, in which the Ukrainian delegation, headed by Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk, is participating.

The Convention is a law-abiding international legal instrument, aimed at protecting ordinary people, who became victims of dealers.

The convention provides for establishment of independent controlling mechanism, charged with observing of keeping to the convention regulations by the members.

16 Council of Europe country-members are parts of the convention.
