In Paris, Victor Yushchenko took part in a plenary meeting of the UNESCO to mark its 60th anniversary, President's press office reported.

In his speech, the Head of State spoke about ways to reform the organization. He thinks it should primarily promote and preserve culture and science and prevent any manifestations of intolerance.

“By asserting the UNESCO values in world politics, we will improve our ability to respond to challenges, building international relations on the principles of tolerance, predictability, and justice. The UNESCO can always rely on the democratic Ukraine,” he said.

Yushchenko thanked the organization for cooperating with our country, which helps Ukraine “become closer to the world.”

The President also said the UNESCO always helped to solve intellectual problems of humanity.

The Head of State reiterated that he was giving his speech before the first anniversary of the Orange Revolution, “an event that has demonstrated Ukraine’s peaceful way to freedom.”

“My country’s experience issignificant to compromise in the world,” he stressed and added that he regarded the UNESCO to be an important tool to compromise.
