"Kazakhstan does not object to Ukraine's participation in the Shanghai Co-operation Organization (SCO) as an observer, if a consensus of all the member states is reached." Kassymzhomart Tokayev, foreign minister of Kazakhstan, made such statement at a meeting with the Chairman of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Vladimir Litvin, KZ-Today correspondent reports.

"The problem is that after the Astana summit when 3 new members were accepted as observers an understanding was reached that a moratorium has to be introduced" [for the accession of new members, KZ-Today,] - he observed. Nevertheless, according to K. Tokayev, "as long as the Ukrainian side has made this bid, it should be considered."

After that the minister explained the procedures necessary to obtain the observer status in the SCO.
