President Victor Yushchenko met with Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy of France. They discussed ways to activate Ukrainian-French cooperation and encourage French companies to invest in the national economy, President's press office reported.

The Head of State said he hoped that by signing a plan of Ukrainian-French cooperation the two countries would enhance their relations. Yushchenko expects the plan to help promote political and economic cooperation.

“This ‘road map’ is a peculiar symbol of our desire to develop relations between Ukraine and France,” he said, noting that relations between the states had considerably improved in the past months.

In his turn, the Foreign Minister assured his vis-à-vis that France was ready to develop relations with Ukraine and said Yushchenko’s upcoming visit to the French Republic on November 15-16 was really important.

Douste-Blazy approved of Ukraine’s initiatives to join the WTO and get a market economy status and pledged his country would support us. Then he added that French officials and business leaders were interested in Ukraine’s integration.

Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk was also present at the meeting.
