Such appraisal was expressed by Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst regarding Ukraine’s draft bill on restriction of foreign investors’ participation in oil and gas production in Black and Azov Seas.
Taking floor in the International Conference “Euro Integration of Oil and Gas Industry of Ukraine,” US Ambassador Herbst gave negative appraisal to parliamentary draft bill proposing to issue the special license for use of oil and gas deposits within the continental shelf, territorial waters and especially sea economic area of Ukraine only to subject of economy with 60% of nominal capital belonged to the state.
“If Ukraine seriously intends to involve foreign investors in oil and as production it will be big step in wrong direction,” stated US Ambassador adding Ukrainian parliament may demonstrate its devotion to open market principles and terminate consideration of the draft bill.
