At a ceremony to close the Molodist Film Festival, Kateryna Yushchenko, Head of the Supervisory Council of the Ukraine 3000 Charitable Foundation, presented Ukraine’s famous actress Larysa Kadochnikova with the Special Prize for making a significant contribution to cinema art.

In her speech, the President’s wife stressed that the Special Prize had been awarded to Kadochnikova for brilliantly performing “the incredibly wonderful, simple and infinitely profound role of Marichka in Sergey Paradzhanov’s ingenious movie Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors.”

“We thank Mrs. Larysa for making usimmensely enjoy this film, each time being astonished at its profoundness, emotional influence and richness of imagery and symbols,” she said.

The First Lady also noted that the prize had been awarded to Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, the film that was produced forty years ago, received more than one hundred awards at international festivals and is still considered to be among the world’s best movies.

Kateryna Yushchenko also announced a contest for the best screenplay about the history of Ukraine, which would be held within the framework of the Molodist Film Festival next year.
