Victor Yushchenko met with Pierre Lellouche, President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, President's press office informs.

The Head of State said relations between Ukraine and the NATO had been developing intensively in the past weeks. He reminded his vis-à-vis of yesterday’s joint meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and the North Atlantic Council.

“We find it important to demonstrate this kind of relations to society and Ukraine’s political forces,” stressed the President.

He added that, unfortunately, many Ukrainian citizens still associated the NATO with “Cold War myths.” Speaking about the Ukraine-NATO Action Plan, he said this document was rather efficient.

“We have entered an intensified dialogue phase,” said Yushchenko, noting that there were “many things we should adapt to European standards.”

He also said government appreciated its negotiations with the Alliance.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk was present at the meeting.
