On October 12, Vladimir Shcherban ex-Governor of Sumy was detained in Orlando, Florida. Speaking in the press conference, Kirill Kulikov the Chief of the National Interpol Bureau revealed some facts of the arrest.
“He did not put up any resistance. He was detained in his flat in Orlando,” said Kulikov.
According to Kulikov’s words, Shcherban’s location was found in June but the law enforcement agencies were waiting for the legal occasion to capture exiled governor. He also pointed out the absence of the Extradition Agreement between the USA and Ukraine.
On April 9, 2005 Vladimir Shcherban using visa for attending the agro industrial exhibition arrived in the USA. The visa has expired on October, 8.
Kulikov mentioned that Shcherban had not appealed for US political asylum. The Chief of the National Interpol Bureau does not know anything about Shcherban’s activity in the USA.
