President Victor Yushchenko has signed a decree to establish a political council under the President of Ukraine, which is supposed to be staffed by Verkhovna Rada faction and group leaders. The Political Council Secretary was appointed Ivan Vasyunyk, Cabinet's press office reported.
The Political Council is a consultative advisory body, which is aimed at establishing constant and constructive dialogue between the President of Ukraine and political forces, which are represented in the Parliament. The Political Council's sessions are supposed to tackle the social-political and social-economic situation in Ukraine, topical internal and foreign problems, with a view of outlining effective ways to solve them and ensuring stable development.
The Political Council is entitled to form expert and working groups for drawing out proposals and involve other officials, NGO representatives, scientists and experts in their work. The Verkhovna Rada Chairman and Prime Minister of Ukraine are invited to participate in the Political Council sessions.
