President Victor Yushchenko met with U.S. Congressmen and U.S. Ambassador John Herbst to discuss a wide range of questions primarily concerning our potential WTO membership. The Head of State noted that the Verkhovna Rada had already approved many WTO bills.He reiterated that Ukraine expected the United States to repeal the Jackson-Vanik amendment.

Then they spoke about American technical aid to finance military and medical programs and solve problems of the Chernobyl Power Plant, President's press office reported.

The American side encouraged Yushchenko to further democratize society and eradicate corruption. They also emphasized that independent courts were vital for Ukraine and insisted that the government should reform the judicial system.
