The European Commission, Ukraine and Moldova are supposed to sign a memorandum on establishing an EU borderline mission on Ukraine-Moldova border on October 7, 2005 in Chisinau, the EuroCommission's press service told.

EU Commissioner for External Relations & European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero Waldner is supposed to be on working visit to Chisinau on October 6 and 7. During the visit, the EU Commissioner will meet with Moldovan Government members, open new EU delegation to Moldova and sign the said memorandum, Cabinet's press office reported.

According to the specified data, the EU mission will consist of 65 people and will work into combating transnational crime. Improvement in cooperation between Ukraine's and Moldova's Boarder services may result in the Transdniestrian conflict settlement.

The EU border mission will start operating on December 1, 2005. Its two-year mandate may be easily renewed, if need be. The project is estimated at 7 M. Euro.

The EU mission will consist of mobile teams, which will suggest training for Ukrainian and Moldovan border officials, empower border services and raise their opportunities to combat transnational crime, including human and weapon trafficking, as well as various border violations. The European party admitted to supplying the Boarder services with the equipment for monitoring reinforcement.
