United States Ambassador to Ukraine John E. Herbst and First Deputy Chairman of the State Administration of Ukraine for Aviation Safety Oversight Anatoliy Kolesnyk signed a grant agreement on Tuesday, with a view of improving aviation safety in Ukraine. The 625,000 USD-grant will serve to finance technical assistance in improving aviation safety supervision functions in Ukraine in compliance with international standards. The State Administration of Ukraine for Aviation Safety Oversight selected Robinson Aviation Inc. of Arlington, Virginia to provide technical assistance.

In particular, the technical assistance program envisages evaluating the current status of Ukraine's civil aviation safety regulatory system, in both structure and operation, in light of the Ukrainian Government's obligations in the International Civil Aviation Organization. Besides, the project provides for preparation of an action plan to address regulatory, staffing, organizational and technical issues that the overall evaluation identifies.

The US Trade and Development Agency promotes stable economic development and advances US commercial interests in developing and middle-income countries. The agency funds different forms of technical assistance, feasibility studies, training, orientation visits and business workshops, which support the development of a modern infrastructure and an equal and open environment for trade. In its mission the USTDA prefers those economic sectors that may benefit from US exports of goods and services. Since 1992 the USTDA has allocated more than 11 M. USD to Ukraine, some ten million of which were granted to feasibility studies.
