At the Response-2005 tactical exercise at the Zhytomyr Training Ground, Victor Yushchenko said the Ukrainian army was positively and dynamically developing.

Commenting on the exercise, he stressed, “I am happy to see that our army is developing.”

President added that the army had received enough fuel and other resources for the first time this year. He told those present about government plans to solve army problems. The Head of State said 43,000 soldiers needed own apartments. Yushchenko informed all that he had discussed the housing problem with acting Defense Minister Anatoly Grytsenko.

“We should real efficiently put an end to this problem,” he said.

President is convinced that the 2006 budget should provide for expenditures to solve many other problems. He also said the Defense Ministry would get a status to order necessary military equipment.

Speaking about utilization of weapons, which are stored all around Ukraine, he said this was one of the biggest challenges the army was facing. Yushchenko reiterated that Ukraine had already addressed the world community to render technical aid to the army. He stressed that the government was responsible to solve this problem.
