As acting Health Minister Nickolay Polishchuk told a Monday news conference in Kiev, Ukraine has got 2.5 M. USD from the World Health Organisation to combat TB.

The money will be used to purchase medicines, which will allow to treat 75,000 TB cases for three years.

Treating TB cases with these medicines will start on January 1, 2006 in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk regions, Crimea and at penitentiary institutions, Nickolay Polishchuk disclosed.

According to Health Ministry data, since the TB epidemic started in Ukraine in 1995 by now TB cases may constitute 1.4 percent of Ukraine's population.
