Acting Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk met with the Iraqi, Jordanian, Pakistani and Iranian Foreign Ministers in New York, the Foreign Ministry's spokesman Vasyl Filipchuk informed.
The meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari dealt with topical matters of the two states' relations. The sides particularly touched on prospects for cooperation in the economic and military - technical domains. The Ukrainian acting Foreign Minister stated Ukrainian companies' readiness to participate in the Iraqi economy's recovery. In this connection the parties agreed to resume the activity of the mixed Ukrainian - Iraqi commission on trade, economic and technical cooperation. The Iraqi Minister thanked Ukraine for its peacekeeping mission in his country. Messrs Tarasyuk and Zebari agreed on the need to transform the Ukrainian peacekeeping mission's role into training the Iraqi forces or rendering technical assistance. The Iraqi Foreign Minister briefed his Ukrainian counterpart about Iraq's intention to resume the work of the Iraqi Embassy in Kiev.
Having met with Jordanian Foreign Minister Farouk Kasrawi, acting Foreign Minister Tarasyuk discussed a likely visit by King Abdallah II of Jordan to Ukraine. A particular attention the two Ministers paid to joint projects in the oil and gas sphere, transportation, rebuilding the Iraqi economy, holding a Ukrainian - Jordanian business forum and convening the first session of the mixed commission on trade - economic and scientific - technical cooperation, Ukrinform reported.
At a meeting with Pakistani Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri Borys Tarasyuk stated Ukraine's readiness to comprehensively develop and deepen cooperation in all spheres.
Ukrainian acting Minister for Foreign Affairs Borys Tarasyuk met with Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Motaki, with whom he shared his views on priority moves to step up cooperation in the energy sphere. The Iranian party confirmed its readiness to intensify cooperation in the economic sphere, particularly, in aviation construction, shipbuilding, engineering, mining industry and railroad sphere.
