In New York, Victor Yushchenko and acting Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk met with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to discuss cooperation between the two countries.

The sides also discussed the current situation in Ukraine. The Head of State commented on his decision to dismiss the Cabinet and NSDCU Secretary Petro Poroshenko. He said it had helped to stabilize the situation in the country to continue all necessary reforms. Yushchenko added that the new government would spare no effort to overcome stagnation in the economy.

In her turn, Condoleezza Rice assured the President that Washington supported our country on its way to eradicate corruption. The Secretary of State said the USA greeted Ukraine’s democratic advance.

According to Yushchenko, Ukraine hopes to sign a bilateral protocol for mutual access to markets of goods and services with the USA. He also hopes Washington will help Ukraine get a market economy status. The President reiterated that Ukraine had repealed visa requirements for U.S. citizens and said he hoped the USA would liberalize visa requirements for Ukrainians.
