The first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk is against the strengthening of control over Internet- editions.

"As far back as in 1990, when I was elected the chairman of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, separate political forces raised the question about strengthening of control over Mass-Medias"said Kravchuk in an interview to ForUm. "I did my best to not allow this. I consider that the attempt to take Internet-editions under control is nothing but strengthening of power over Mass-Medias. It is inadmissible. Another matter – formation of corresponding conditions for everybody and triumph of law. This is what I support."

Estimating the level of liberty of speech in Ukraine, Kravchuk pointed out that "there was no liberty of speech in Ukraine before and there is not now. There are a lot of examples of dismissal of newspaper heads, pressure on TV channels. It is not possible to talk about liberty of speech seriously now. The authority must do a lot to see fulfilled this liberty."
