The term of exploitation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants draws to a close that is why the number of breakages increases more often than in previous years. Sergey Bozhko the Head of State Nuclear Regulation reported about this fact.
"We passed the resolution not to close such plants but to modernize them and then to exploit," stated Bozhko.
The State Nuclear Regulation affirms that every station is thoroughly controlled. The information about spews, nuclear rains and clouds is mere hearsays. The main problem of Ukrainian APP is nuclear waste. The processed nuclear fuel is sent to Russia but the main part of it is left nearby the nuclear plants. Ukraine does not have its own recycling plant and the strategy concerning such plant is under the discussion.
Ukraine has five nuclear power plants: Rivne, Chernobyl, South Ukrainian, Khmelnitskaya and Zaporozhye. The experts reckon it is too much even for the biggest state in Europe to have fifteen energy blocks. That is why the main their problem is reduction of capacity. Domestic plants produce 13,000 megawatts but Ukraine needs less than 9,000 megawatts.
