Journalists of Ukrainskaya Pravda have published open letter to President of Ukraine signed by 200 of their colleagues. By this measure Ukrainian journalists decided to call Viktor Yushchenko President of Ukraine to account for his offensive attitude towards their colleague, Sergey Leshchenko.

Sergey Leshchenko, journalist of Ukrainskaya Pravda asked in the press conference President of Ukraine to explain the doing of his son who spent crazy money (by Ukrainians' standards) for his life-style.

We remind that Ukrainskaya Pravda was founded by Georgy Gongadze in 2000.

Here is the shorten version of this letter:
"Viktor Andreeevich!

We, Ukrainian journalists, are revolted by your humiliating statements towards our colleague, Sergey Leshchenko, during the press conference on July 25, 2005.
We reckon it is unworthy for leader of European democratic country to express in such way: "hireling killer," "mug," journalist who has never "worked for the sake of freedom of speech." These words are slap in the face of all Ukrainian journalists.

You swore on Maydan (during the Orange revolution – edit.) to stand for the freedom of speech. We remember your words: "I promise you to render an account to you for every my deed. My family will render an account to you for every private action. I demand the same actions from every authority of Ukraine," "We want to grow up a special caste of Ukrainian journalists – proud, brave and honest."

According to all that we demand: to apologize in public for Sergey Leshchenko; render an account to journalists for the incomes of your family.

We insist on your respect towards the journalists and Constitutional right on freedom of speech and free access to information."
