Tomenko wants to forbid street advertisement of alcohol

The vice Prime Minister on humanitarian and social issues, Nickolay Tomenko, declares that starting from January 1, 2006 the advertisement of alcohol and tobacco must disappear from Ukraine’s streets.

He set Advertising Council such a task during the session on Tuesday, as reported by the press-service of the vice Premier.

"During many years, representatives of advertising business were earning money on Ukrainians’ health, but now it is time to start thinking about society. Ukrainians will see more social advertisement next year," said Tomenko.

Discussing the main problems of advertisement sphere, it has been formed several working groups. In particular, it has been decided to form a working group charged with limitation of alcohol advertisement on TV; the group will submit changes to the Act "On advertising" for consideration in Cabinet.

"We must do everything possible in order to Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passes the changes despite the fact that many people’s deputies are engaged in outside advertising," pointed out Tomenko.

Other groups will be charged with remedy advertising, social advertising and advancement of tourist tendencies.
