Anatoly Kinakh, the First Vice-Premier of Ukraine, visited Israel as the head of an official state delegation from Ukraine. During this visit, he conducted a meeting with the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine, Azriel Chaikin. He also met with Lev Leviev, the President of the FJC CIS and renowned philanthropist.

During their meeting, the Jewish and Ukrainian leaders discussed several issues concerning the development of the Jewish community in Ukraine and the strengthening of relations between the peoples of Ukraine and Israel, FJC News reported.

Anatoly Kinakh also paid a visit to the Wailing Wall and, accompanied by Rabbi Chaikin and by two of Israel's Chief Rabbis - Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yonah Metzger and Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar.

Also during the visit, the Ukrainian delegation met with representatives of the Israeli government, as well as leading politicians and businessmen. During those meetings, the question arose concerning mutually beneficial cooperation between Ukraine and Israel in a number of areas. Among these, special attention was paid to cooperation in the sphere of transportation and banking affairs.

Anatoly Kinakh was announced as the Head of Delegation, in place of Ukraine President Victor Yushchenko, who originally intended to visit the Holy Land on this occasion. While in Tel Aviv on July 17th, Anatoly Kinakh announced that President Yushchenko intends to visit Israel towards the end of October or beginning of November this year. The details concerning that visit will be announced at a later time.
