To avoid ecological catastrophe Ukraine is needed to utilize 19 thousand tons of propellant of the type "Mélange". The deputy minister of defence of Ukraine, Vladimir Tereshchenko, reported about it on the joint seminar of OSCE and NATO on utilization of propellant components.
He pointed out that about 60% of this propellant is in a dangerous state. The problem is that tanks with "Mélange' lose capability to keep the substance. "Walls of tanks became twice thinner," underlined Tereshchenko.
He also added that the conducted investigation showed that in case of an emergency on the depot, "the supranational consequences" would appear. In this connection the deputy minister called the representatives of OSCE and NATO to assist Ukraine in solving the problem of propellant utilization.
