France and Ukraine signed on Monday here several economic agreements, notably in the field of defense at the meeting between Ukrainian Prime Minister Julia Timoshenko and her French counterpart Dominique de Villepin, China View reported.

"We have signed eleven documents, memorandums, agreements in the fields of plane construction, defense and security," Timoshenko told journalists at the French prime minister's residence.
"We have felt a support for our projects in the field of energy,nuclear energy, oil industry and in what is related to gas pipelines and oil pipelines," she said, mentioning a contract withthe European consortium EADS and a contract with the French high-technology company of Sagem, but without specifying their contents.

The two heads of government also discussed issues related to the construction of the 674 km Odessa-Brody pipeline, which, completed in May 2002, marked a significant step for the economic development of Ukraine, as well as major progress for the debottlenecking of the Caspian basin resources.

Timoshenko also said she was worried about the scanty 80 million-dollar French investment in Ukrainian economy. "On what isconcerning Ukrainian investment in France, it does not simply exist. It does not measure up to the two European partners," she said, pleading for intense economic exchanges between the two countries.
