During his visit to France the secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council, Petro Poroshenko, meets with the First Vice-President of the French Senate, Jean-Claude Gaudin, on Thursday, the NSDC press service informed.

They discussed interparliamentary relations and agreed to resume relations between twin-cities Marseilles and Odesa. The sides also agreed to exchange delegations to these cities, with a view of continuing constructive cooperation. Petr Poroshenko conveyed a letter to the chairman of the Party of Union for People's Movement, Nicolas Sarkozy, congratulating him on his appointment to the high post of the minister of Internal Affairs of France, Ukrainian Radio reported.

The Ukrainian NSDC secretary expressed his hope for the development of cooperation between Ukraine and France in the sphere of internal affairs, particularly in such matters as combating organized crime and illegal migration and counteracting to modern challenges and threats.

Petr Poroshenko also met with the French president's diplomatic adviser for foreign policies, defense and security, Maurice Gourdault-Montagne. The sides discussed Ukraine's foreign and internal policies. A particular attention was paid to a visit of the president Viktor Yushchenko to France planed for June 22, 2005. The parties adjusted the list of matters to tackle during the Ukrainian-French negotiations.

The NSDC secretary briefed the diplomatic adviser about the Ukrainian plan of the Transdniestrian settlement in detail.
