The Pechersk district court of Kyiv prolonged the arrest of the chairman of Donetsk regional council, Boris Kolesnikov, until August 6, MIGnes.com.ua reported.

This decision was made by the judge, Anjela Strizhevska, on the grounds of the claim submitted by the General Office of Public Prosecutor. The General Prosecution appealed to the court to prolong the Kolesnikov’s arrest for another 2 months until August 6, and thus the overall term now makes up 4 months.
The General prosecution motivated the Kolesnikov’s arrest by the fact that his liberation might have impeded the completion of the case, as well as resulted in new crimes. In turn, Kolesnikov claimed that there are no reasons for the continuation of the arrest and required to alter the very measure of suppression.

Having considered the General Office’s of Public Prosecutor decision, the court satisfied it in full. The court’s decision might be appealed in Kyiv Court of Appeals.

About 100 supporters of the Social-Democratic party (united) and the Party of Regions picketed the Pechersk district court of Kyiv, where the Kolesnikov’s case was decided on Thursday.

We remind, the General Prosecution accused Kolesnikov of blackmail and abuse of office. On 8 April the Pechersk district court of Kyiv, after the consideration of the measure in Kolesnikov’s case, had decided to arrest him, and then the Court of Appeals affirmed that decision. Kolesnikov was detained on 6 April on the suspicion of blackmailing. The criminal proceeding in due fact was instituted against him in February.
