Catastrophic state of the Lavra reserve can cause the exclusion of Kiev Pechersk Lavra from the list of world heritage of UNESCO. The director general of Kiev Pechersk reserve, Sergey Krolevets, reported about it during the Constituent Assembly of the new staff of National commission on UNESCO affairs.
According Krolevets, during last years the Lavra sights are destroyed faster than are reconstructed. One of the reasons is that "the status of the reserve is not legally regulated; the reserve can not resist the grandiose plans of the city administration, which tries to build up its zone of conservation. Besides, intense economic activity of the cloister of Moscow Patriarchy worsens the situation."
On May 23 the great landslip happened in the near-by caves for the first time in the history of Lavra.
Exclusion of Kiev Pechersk Lavra from the list of world heritage of UNESCO will cause the exclusion of Sofiya Kievskaya, as the both reserves were included in the list as a single object in 1990.
