General Secretary of U.N.O., Kofi Annan, called international community to help Ukraine with financing Chernobyl’s programs. It is said in the special secretary’s statement on the occasion of the anniversary of Chernobyl disaster.

"Today, almost 20 years later, Chernobyl’s tragic heritage continues to affect the fate of millions of men, suffered from this terrible technological  catastrophe," admitted Kofi Annan.

Mr Annan "urges the international community to provide the necessary financial support for programs designed to assist communities traumatised by Chernobyl to regain self-sufficiency and help families to lead normal, healthy lives in the affected areas".

International conference in memory of Chernobyl takes place today in U.N.O. HQ in New-York.
