"I do not have doubts that this was a special operation directed to elimination of Vyacheslav Chornovil", - Omelchenko said.
The Member of Parliament bases his opinion on a few arguments.
"Yet in 1999 the former presidential candidate Eugen Marchuk showed me a cassette which represented a man in a mask and with a special device to change voice. The man introduced himself as a colonel of ministry of internal affairs of Ukraine and told the conducting of special operation for elimination of Vyacheslav Chornovil in details", - Omelchenko said.
According to Omelchenko, except for him, PM Anatoliy Ermak, died in 2003, and also presidential candidate in 1999 Vladimir Oleynik saw this cassette.
"Showing this cassette, Eugen Marchuk said that this was the real officer of MIA, and this record had been done freely. Marchuk promised to organize a meeting with this officer. But it was postponed to uncertain term and never took place", - Omelchenko said.
Later Eugen Marchuk declared that the cassette had disappeared. But Grigory Omelchenko considers, that "actually the cassette has gone nowhere and is still at Marchuk".
In this connection the deputy called Marchuk to give the record to investigation charged with the death of Vyacheslav Chornovil.
"Time, when Eugen Marchuk had to be afraid, has already passed", - the Member of Parliament considers.
According to Omelchenko, the man on the cassette named the organizer of murder of Vyacheslav Chornovil. However the deputy declared that it would not wise to name him till Eugen Marchuk gave the cassette to investigators.
Speculating about a possible customer of murder of Vyacheslav Chornovil, Grigory Omelchenko marked that can follow suppositions only.
"According to situation with elections in 1999, Leonid Kuchma very feared Vyacheslav Chornovil to be a presidential candidate. If it had happened, he would have taken almost all voices in Western Ukraine, and Eastern Ukraine would not have voted for Kuchma anyway. Therefore Vyacheslav Chornovil was a threat for presidency of Kuchma", - PM considers.
At the same time, Omelchenko underlined that despite of obvious utility of Chornovil’s deaths for Leonid Kuchma "I can not assert that Kuchma was a customer. I do not have proofs".
