Signing of the Association Agreement with Ukraine will be a real transformation of the Eastern policy of the European Union, head of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso said in interview with the Lithuanian publication Lietuvos Rytas.

According to him, the Commission hopes to sign the association agreement with Ukraine and initial the Association Agreement with Moldova, Georgia and Armenia at the November summit in Vilnius.
As Barroso said, signing agreements with these countries is a real transformation of the "Eastern Partnership".

"Of course, to implement these intentions, our partners should show a firm willingness to implement promised reforms. This is the main condition for drawing up, signing and ratification of these agreements," the head of the European Commission recalled.

Barroso added that the goal of political association and economic integration ties EU with Ukraine.

"The policy of the Eastern Partnership provides such a format of relations to all partners. However, the interaction must be based on respect for common values such as democracy, human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as the transparency of the judicial system of the state. We hope that until November Ukraine will be able to meet the criteria, which were established in December by the Council of Foreign Affairs. This correspondence would ensure the irreversibility of the reform process," the head of the European Commission said.
