The concept and the State program for reforming and development of the Armed Forces until 2017 will be accepted in the near future, President Viktor Yanukovych said at the solemn meeting on the occasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Day, the President’s press service informs.
"The Ukrainian state pays special attention to the implementation of military reform, the development of the armed forces and strengthening the defense," he said.
The President drew attention to the positive changes occurred in this field over the past year. First of all, he noted that the conceptual documents defining the state security and defense policy have been passed.
Yanukovych also reminded of the approval of the revised National Security Strategy of Ukraine, which takes into account the realities of modern geopolitics and place of Ukraine as the non-aligned state in it.
The President also noted the adoption of the new edition of the Military Doctrine of Ukraine, which identifies priorities and military policy of our state. "We aim to create the new, modern army in Ukraine," he stressed.
Yanukovych said that review of the defense, involving scholars and experts of different levels, is already completed. "We have obtained an objective assessment of the status and capabilities of our troops and identified ways to further reform and development," he said.
According to the President, the Strategic Defense Bulletin of Ukraine, whose project has already passed expert review and approval, will soon be approved.
