Social assistance to veterans, participants in the Great Patriotic War will be growing with the improvement of economic situation in the country, President Viktor Yanukovych told journalists while visiting the Ukrainian Public Health and Social Center in the village of Tsybli, Kyiv region.
"In the future, with the growth of the economy and increase in minimum pensions, social security to veterans, participants in the Great Patriotic War will be increasing," he said.
The President said that it is necessary to help veterans at the level of the state and at the level of regions, cities, every family.
In this context he reminded of the last-year’s decision to increase the amount of a one-time assistance to veterans. "We did it last year and this year, and we will provide them money," Viktor Yanukovych said.
The President said that in 2011 about 550 million UAH were allocated for assistance payments on the occasion of May 9. These funds, he said will be transferred to all the regions of Ukraine by May 5.
"Certainly, we will be considering the question of social care annually," Viktor Yanukovych said, adding that this applies in particular to cheaper medicines.
