Domestic manufacturers of railway equipment now have an opportunity to manufacture the products in accordance with the new international standard. The Ministry of Infrastructure recommends Ukrainian enterprises producing railway transport to master the IRIS (International Railway Industry Standard, the ministry reported at the seminar-conference with representatives of domestic transport machine building enterprises and the head of the IRIS group Bernard Kaufman, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

The ministry proposes that manufacturing plants to consider adopting a new standard to enhance the competitiveness of domestic products on the EU and CU markets. Volodymyr Kornienko, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, said at the meeting that manufacturers decide on whether to participate in the IRIS certification voluntarily.

"The Ministry of Infrastructure is interested in making sure that our Ukrainian factories meet modern international standards. This will improve their products, enhance their competitiveness. Being the central body of executive power in the transport sector, the ministry interested in supplying the Ukrainian Railways with high quality railway products. It is the aim of introducing IRIS. However, it is up to manufacturers to decide," Kornienko said.

The concept of the new standard that determines the basic requirements for manufacturers, concentrates the improvement of all the logistics process, from production to supply. Ukraine will need 1,5-2 years to complete the IRIS certification process.

Experts say certification centers of the ministry will support introduction of the new standard. The Dnipropetrovsk railway certification center is the most competent body today which is why it will take care of consulting Ukrainian manufacturers who will make a decision to get the IRIS certificate.
