The Ministry of Revenue and Duties of Ukraine proposes to simplify customs clearance for the teams participating in the final tournament of the European Basketball Championship, which will take place in Ukraine in 2015. The draft decree is published on the Ministry’s web portal for open discussion, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

The objective of the bill is to introduce a simplified customs procedure for goods to be brought in for preparing and holding the finals of EuroBasket 2015. It will allow the participating teams to bring in the goods necessary for the championship, with exemption from customs duties and value added tax, provided they comply with the established requirements.

The Ministry is confident that all these measures will facilitate a rapid movement of goods required for Eurobasket 2015, at no additional cost and time for participants and official guests.

According to experts, the experience of preparation and holding of finals of the European Football Championship in 2012 showed the need for legislative regulation of certain issues related to customs control and clearance of goods brought in for that event. The subject procedure is aimed to optimize the customs procedures for large-scale sporting events based on the experience of Euro 2012.

In the retrospective, on December 18, 2011, Ukraine received the right to host the final tournament of the European Basketball Championship in 2015. And in November 2013 the Ukrainian government approved the State targeted social program of preparation and holding of the final tournament of the European Basketball Championship 2015 for 2013-2015. The total program budget amounted to 13.352 billion UAH. For comparison, in 2008-2011Ukraine appropriated from the budget 41.7 billion UAH to prepare for Euro-2012.
