The Cabinet approved the design and title for the upgrade of the Dnepropetrovsk airport. According to the approved project, the modernization of the Dnipropetrovsk International Airport will cost 2.11 billion UAH, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers informs.

1.476 billion UAH will be allocated for construction, 114.908 million UAH for equipment and 519.553 million UAH for other expenses. The estimate for Stage 1 is 1.706 billion UAH, Stage 2 – 403.8 million UAH. It is planned to raise all necessary funds for the project under the state guarantees. The reconstruction is expected to take 26 months.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Dnipropetrovsk International Airport increased passenger traffic by 1.9%, to 379,500 passengers from January through October. Analysts of the Ministry state that modernization of the airport will increase the flow of passengers and goods by 4-5%.

Overall, from January to November 2013 the passenger traffic of the Ukrainian airports grew by 6.7%, up to 14.07 million (from 2012). In November 2013, the passenger traffic through domestic airports grew by 18.1%, to 1,137 million persons, and transportation of goods - by 2.6%, up to 4,000 tons. The Kyiv Boryspil Airport served 7.32 million passengers, including 6,644 million on international flights, and 676,800 on domestic over the same period.

Experts note that Ukrainian airports are modernized under the State target program of airport development 2023. The total cost of the Program is 19 billion UAH.

Experts say, the program is aimed to cover the needs of the national economy and the population in air transportation, enhancing competitiveness of the aviation industry, which will increase by 2.5 times by 2023. Based on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the overall demand for air travel will grow annually by 4-5% on average from 2012 to 2023.
