Ukraine's Orlivka Ferry Complex LLC and Romania's MBS-invest with support of English and Cypriot investors plan to launch ferry across the Danube River between Orlivka (Reni distinct of Odesa region) and Isaccea (Romania).

Director General of Orlivka Ferry Complex, MP of Odesa Regional Council Yuriy Dymchohlo said during public discussions on the detailed plan of the project in Reni district said that the construction would start in spring 2014, and at present documents for land are being drawn up and blueprints works are underway. It will take around one year to build the ferry complex, Interfax-Ukraine informed.

"Odesa Regional Administration and Reni District Administration are helping us today. If we successfully realize the project on the Orlivka-Isaccea ferry, the construction of the Odesa-Reni highway will be easier for the state to start. We're waiting for a cabinet resolution on the opening of the international checkpoint near the future ferry complex," Dymchohlo said.

The total investment in the project is not disclosed. Dymchohlo said that Ukraine plans to invest EUR 5 million, and Romania – EUR 20 million. It is planned to create a free economic zone with warehouses and infrastructure apart from the ferry complex.

It is planned that the ferry capacity will be 170,000 passenger cars and trucks a year.

The project on the construction of the ferry across the Danube River has been discussed since 1998. The principal agreement on the construction of the ferry between Romania and Ukraine was reached in 2006.
