Chairman of the Kyiv city state administration Oleksandr Popov hopes the conflict situation in the city to be resolved soon for New Year festivities to go as scheduled. "I am convinced that all issues will be settled through a peaceful dialogue, and we will enter the year of 2014 as a civilized democratic country," he said.

In turn, deputy KCSA chairman Viktor Korzh told the press that the city authorities consider buying a real tree to install it in the capital. "We are seeking variants to buy the biggest possible New Year tree to install it in a place, recommended by Kyiv residents. We might ask our colleagues from Ivano-Frankivsk, Zhytomyr or Lviv regions to help up with finding this tree, " he said.

Moreover, Kyiv residents can call the number 15-51 to voice their propositions regarding the place and decorations.

"We are not going to renounce the festivities. We want Kyiv residents and guests of the city to enjoy the tradition of New Year and Christmas holidays," Korzh added.
