HIV infection rate in Ukraine has decreased seven times for the last seven years.

This was announced by director of the Ukrainian Center for control over socially dangerous diseases under the Health Ministry of Ukraine Natalia Nizova at a press briefing today, ForUm correspondent reports.

"On the basis of objective data, HIV infection rate in Ukraine has decreased seven times for the last seven years," she said.

According to Nizova, HIV infection rate has reduced from 11% to 6.7% among injecting drug users. Mother-to-child transmission of HIV decreased by 7 times (to 4.7 %). In addition, mortality from AIDS decreased by 11.7%, compared with last year.

The representative of the Health Ministry noted that almost 16 thousand of new HIV cases were registered for 9 months of 2013 in Ukraine. In addition, scientists point out epidemic’s aging, i.e. the disease is detected in inveterate form.

In general, 239.5 thousand cases of HIV infection, including 64.5 thousand AIDS cases, are officially registered in Ukraine as of today.
