Ukraine makes a significant practical contribution to making the world safe. To this end, the Cabinet  on Nov. 27 approved the Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations (UN) to provide financial and technical resources for the Ukrainian contingent, which is a part of the UN humanitarian operation in Côte d'Ivoire, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

The Memorandum envisions that the Ukrainian contingent of 130 soldiers will be funded at the expense of the State Budget of Ukraine with subsequent compensation of these costs by the United Nations.

Government analysts say that Ukraine's participation in the UN operation in Côte d'Ivoire is an acknowledgment of professionalism and trust in the Ukrainian military, and evidence of the international society and the United Nations that the training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine meets international standards. 56th separate helicopter detachment, which is participating in peacekeeping operations, has had 18 soldiers rotations. And Ukraine is the third largest in Europe (after France and Italy) by the number of peacekeepers in the UN operations on peace and security maintenance.

Despite the planned reduction of UN peacekeeping forces in Africa, Ukrainian troops continue to carry out their mission in full force, the UN appreciates Ukrainian soldiers for their professionalism and perseverance.

Currently there are 130 Ukrainian peacekeepers in Côte d'Ivoire who were deployed in Liberia after the situation in the country had stabilized.

Out of 28 countries represented in the UN police contingent in Côte d'Ivoire, there are only two European ones - France and Ukraine.
