According to the elections results held on November 13 in the framework of the 37th session of the UNESCO General Conference, Ukraine elected a member of the UNESCO Executive Board for 2013-2017. It was reported by the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine.
According to the report, Ukraine candidacy was supported by 169 countries out of 185 UNESCO member states, which took part in the vote.
According to the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine, election of Ukraine to the governing body of UNESCO will help to strengthen the authority of the state as an active and responsible participating country of UNESCO, which makes a significant contribution to the work of the Organization, including implementation of initiatives to promote international cooperation in the sphere of science, education and culture.
For the period of membership in UNESCO since May 12, 1954, Ukraine has been already elected to the Executive Board for three times: 1981-1985, 1995-1999 and 2001-2005.
