Road accidents kill almost four thousand Ukrainians this year

For ten months of 2013, 3.7 thousand Ukrainians were killed in road accidents and 30.6 thousand were injured, director of the center for road safety and automated systems in the Interior Ministry Serhiy Budnyk told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

However, according to him, the mortality rate in road accidents is reducing.

"Since 2007 the number of deaths on roads has amounted to 9.600 people, and about 70 thousand have been injured. According to statistics, 4.800 people were killed in 2011 and 5094 people - in 2012. For ten months of this year 24.7 thousand accidents were registered. 3.7 thousand people were killed and 30.6 thousand were injured in road accidents," he said.

According to him, the main causes of road accidents are speed enforcement, violation of the rules of maneuvering and accidents caused by pedestrians.
