Ukraine, Russia to expand trade partnership

Ukraine’s government is doing everything possible to increase the export potential on global and regional markets. In particular, much attention is paid to trade turnover with the Russian Federation, the Information-analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

On October 14, 2013, in Moscow, Nikolai Prisyazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, and Nikolai Fyodorov, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, held the 11th meeting of Sub-Committee for Agricultural Complex under Committee for Economic Cooperation of Russian-Ukrainian International Committee.

During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of important and relevant issues of bilateral cooperation in grain, veterinary, and phyto-sanitary field, as well as of food sale. 

The ministers also discussed ways of enhancing the bilateral trade of agricultural products and expansion of their range.

Prisyazhnyuk said that Ukraine and Russia continue cooperating in the agricultural sector along the previously achieved agreements. He also mentioned that return of Ukrainian confectionery products to Russian market was one of the most actual issues for bilateral cooperation.

«We discussed the duties on Ukrainian sugar and caramel exported to Russia, and return of confectionery company Roshen to Russian market. In particular, we requested the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation to address this issue with Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and assist with its resolution. We understand that this issue is beyond competence of the Ministry. However, its management assured us that we could count on their support in this matter,» Prisyazhnyuk emphasized.

The sides also discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of cattle breeding, seed farming, education and science, and exhibition activities. In turn, the Russian party also noted the importance of expanding cooperation with Ukraine in agricultural sector.
