The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has said that there is no threat to tourists staying in resort towns in Egypt in connection with the unrest in the country.

"The situation in the resort areas of Egypt and on the Red Sea coast is calm. At the same time, peaceful rallies took place in Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada on July 7," deputy director of the Ministry’s information policy department Vasyl Zvarych told Interfax-Ukraine.

He added that the Ukrainian Embassy in Egypt confirmed that these rallies were peaceful and did not threaten tourists. "According to local tour operators and citizens of Ukraine who are staying there, these rallies in no way affected the foreigners and had no impact on their recreation in these provinces," the diplomat said.

According to him, the Egyptian police stepped up security measures in resort towns. Ukrainian diplomatic institutions have received no reports about Ukrainians getting into emergencies, Zvarych said.

The Foreign Ministry again reminded Ukrainians their recommendation to stay in the territory of hotels and not to visit large Egyptian cities, as well as public places.
