The Interior Ministry did not timely respond to raping a woman in Mykolayiv region because of hiding information by local police officers, interior minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko said, responding to questions from MPs, ForUm correspondent reports.

"We do not conceal and do not justify such actions. The Interior Ministry is interested in full investigation into this case by the Prosecutor General’s Office. One of the main reasons for that case was irresponsible performance of duties by individual law enforcement officers ... The Interior Ministry did not immediately reacted to this event, because 17 thousand reports of violations comes to the police every day," the minister said.

At the same time Zakharchenko said he condemns storming of the district police department in Mykolayiv region. "Such actions of protest are unacceptable," he said.

According to him, a meeting, chaired by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, to determine joint actions to solve the crime is scheduled for 3 p.m., today.
